Many thanks for stopping in at "The Hudson River" and "Adirondack Cabin." Your thoughtful comments are always appreciated. The Adirondaks, where both of these shots were taken, is the largest national park in the US. It's 6 million acres of forest, mountains and lakes. A very rustic style, folk art style of furniture is attributed to the area.

Hi Nigel..thanks so ,much for stopping by the image ~it's official~. I am truly humbled by my son's achievement. He worked like a trooper and studied like a warrior for the lieutenants test. He had made a decision that if he didn't pass he wasn't going to put him & his family the the rigorous process again!
It is dream come true for him. His first 'worker', as it is called, as officer in charge was a deck collapse with 14 seriously injured women attending a bridal shower. He was officially recognized after the fact as a 'true leader & hero'. Makes a Mom's heart beat a bit faster, louder and swell with pride. We were invited to witness the laudatory praises be bestowed upon him :=)

good things happen. :) Hope all is well with you my friend!

Thanks for your encouraging comment on my sunset pic Nigel, I'm really pleased you liked it. As for the dust storm, I have to confess that while I myself did leave the house (our town lost power so I went to check on my grandparents only to discover they're apparently on the emergency grid as they're in the same block as the police and fire departments so they were fine), I wasn't ready to risk my camera. There were some awesome images to be had for those brave souls with the right gear though, unfortunately I just wasn't one of them:( Take care, Kelcey.

Thank you, Nigel, great comment. Glad you like my photo, but I don't know what are the other conditions. The mountains behind are almost always hazy, in summer because it's hot (to 40 C), and in winter beacuse it's cold (under 0 C). In UK you don't have that kind of a climate, I know, I've been there, and it's unusual for you.

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Thanks very much for checking out Swanning around. Slimbridge is well worth at least one visit. These animals are spoilt rotten. Most of the birds will feed from your hand. It is a great place to practise some 'portrait' shots. My failure on many of the shots (not yours I'm sure!) was to not pay attention to the shutter speed. Do whatever it takes (high iso, large aperture) to keep the images of the birds crystal clear and freeze their constant pecking and head movements.

Thanks for your comments regarding Mountain Relief. I am always striving to get the images as 'realistic' as possible. It's all about composition, balance, perspective. With a blank canvus to start with, it is both tricky and fun to be in total control of the physics of the world. It's never perfect, which makes me keep going back for more. Thanks for stopping by.
