Thanks for the observations on the Cairo street. I wasn't sure about that one and wanted to see what others might do. I left a comment there about what I thought about dealing with the shot, but as with the produce stand from Turkey, it was kind of a catch the shot now or forget it kind of thing. Hi Dave, I 'm glad you looked at the Iris and the Cathedral shot. Yes, I didn't have a good shot at the iris because in one direction was the house foundation, and the other way I'd have had to step on some plants. I thought leaving what was in the background there where it was before I messed it up. I could have manipulated the background by blurring it more, but I'll leave that for another time. Thank you for your comments. I have yet to look at your submission on the ceiling yet, but I'm getting there. Just got home from work at midnight. Cindy

Little Hawkeye ..... Thanks, Dave. I was just thinking the same thing, as he didn't seem to know how to eat very well. I just happened to have a container of nightcrawlers, my son left in the fridge. He was here for a few days during my surgery, to look after Blue.
Anyway, it took a bit of coaxing, but he finally gobbled down every one, and there must have been 9 or 10 of them. Sure hope I didn't overfeed him. It was just like watching a mother bird, only I was the mother. I got a couple of pix when I was first trying, and he was just sitting there, with the worm, dangling from his beak. We have someone in the area, that I've read about, and I'm trying to locate them. He's a pretty good size, but definitely acts more like a baby.

Hi Dave, Great to see you. Thanks for that great comment you left under my window. LOL I know, I have a 4 MP Kodak, but I can't help thinking I would be more challenged with a DSLR because I could experiment more, but the Kodak does have manual mode too. I just can't seem to get good night shots out of it. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I think it really does take 3.2 MP shots even though it says 4 MP. I guess I just wanted to graduate, but if you can get such terrific shots with your camera, then maybe I should just 'look around' as you said and spend the time composing the shots with the camera that I have. I'm conflicted about it, of course. I wouldn't mind having a new camera (Canon Digital Rebel XT), but I don't mind having the money either. Who will win, the frugal pragmatist or the wacky self indulgent photo enthusiast?

Thanks for your confidence in me, Dave. And I did break down and buy the Rebel because Sat. is the last day you can buy one and get a $100 rebate. I bought it on line at GeniusCameras.com. It comes with a memory card, case, full tripod, etc. in a package for $669. (They said rebate already accounted for in price). It seemed like a good deal, so I went for it. I have been perusing the journals and the internet for reviews on DSLRs, checking them out at stores and this Canon seemed about the best deal. The Nikon (D70) was pretty nice, but only 6.1 MP and large in size and I liked the feel of the Pentax (now Samsung) but that used AA batteries, etc.
I hope I did the right thing in going with this on-line company. I can't wait to get it and start playing around. I just saw that Sony has released a 10.2 MP DSLR that will sell for around $900. It has an image stabilization lens too. I expect that I will have to eventually buy another lens for this Canon because I read that shots taken at higher f-stops aren't great. Well, there isn't a camera out there yet that is perfect in every way. I'll let you know what I think when I've had a chance to fool a bit with this new toy. LOL Cindy

Shore Patrol - Glad you liked this.Your time and comments are much appreciated, Dave.
Re slide transfers, I have a dedicated Film/Slide scanner, but have to say, I'm not using it anymore.
Canon recently intoduced a new scanner series, with resolutions equal or better than the dedicated ones, and much faster. I tested an original model, think it was the 4400F, and it was excellent. It will handle 35mm slides and film, at an astounding 3200X6400 dpi resolution, and Selectable, up to 19,200 dpi. Photo print copies are actually better than originals.
While I was testing this one, they intoduced the 8400F which will also handle 120 rollfilm negatives, and I bought that one in the U.S. for
$150. Couldn't believe the price, for such a high quality scanner.
As for cleaning slides, find a camera shop that has a good film cleaning brush, about the width of the film portion, and a separate blower ball, similar to an ear syringe. Dust doesn't come off a slide, the way it does from a lens, and tiny lens brush.
It has to be loosened with a proper brush, and then blown off.
If you need any help or info, email me at

Thanks Dave for commenting on the original lily. As I said, I wasn't sure what to do and I wasn't sure which one was better. Now I see that maybe the original could have been dealt with in a different manner, but I really wasn't sure what the best thing to do would be because I found the background distracting. I am glad people offered suggestions because it really gives me a handle on how to go about doing this right and understanding what makes an image more appealing. Thank you for all your comments. They are more than welcome. Cindy

Oh, never buy ANYHTHING from Genius Photo! I cancelled my order for the Canon Rebel after I discovered at resellerratings.com that they have an overall rating of 0.24 on a scale of 1 to 10! Thank goodness they hadn't charged my credit card five days from the order. I re-ordered at a place with a 9.68 rating; Newegg.com. I hope that was a better choice. I get a 1G memory card with the camera and 3 day shipping for $9 from CA. I did lose out on the $100 rebate from Canon, but I didn't want to wait until they had another promotion at Canon.

Thanks for your observations on "Fishing Village" about the waste of space on the gravel in the foreground. I don't remember, but I'm guessing it was the only way to get that particular shot. Or it could have been one of those shoot-now-think-later deals! LOL. Not the best photo for sure, but it was a great scene anyway and I did my best to capture the flavor of a place that seemed like a step out of time. Thanks for stopping in and sharing your thoughts. I always appreciate your input. anne :-)

Hello Dear Caedes Friend, I will be away with business and ministry for a few weeks so I won't be available to respond to comments or leave any critiques. I will check in when I can but wanted to let you all know that I'm not ignoring you, just not available. Bless you, anne :-)

Cheers, Dave! I'm thrilled that you liked the Mad...Moth. He was really amazing. I'm pretty sure that was a male. The females are lighter in color. Thanks for taking a look at him and leaving the comment. As always I appreciate your input. Cindy

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

Hi Dave! How are you? I'm happy to see you stopping by some of my posts and leaving those really wonderful comments. The mushroom is called a pig skinned puff ball. I only know that because a caedesian contacted me and wanted me to send him the unresized image. I guess he's into fungi and mushrooms and he told me that. I am using the Canon Rebel more and more now. Most of the shots I take with that need none or minimal adjustments. I'm just getting the hang of it and I'm on the look out for a telephoto lens. I hope you're doing fine and I'm happy to find posts from you from time to time. I like the abandoned building by the sea a lot. I thought it was moody in nature and I like those kinds of shots.

Thank you for your sentiments on the NY Pree 911 image. I know the whole world was changed 5 years ago Dave. I believe that terrible destuction has brought the peoples of the world closer to one another in many ways. Blessings, anne :-)
