I also was able to snap pretty much the same exact photo with my aperture stopped down all the way, and the backgroud came out crystal clear. I liked both, but ended up picking the one with the blurred background. Artistic choice, but definitely a tough one to make. I'll let you know when I post the other version, but for a few days I'll be bumping against my 2 pics per day limit with other pics.

Thanks very much for you comments on Plant Scaffolding. Much appreciated!!! It was a moment of inspiration.

The camera was fairly new and I was snapping away at anything remotely interesting. I often treat the camera like a microscope, to explore the small things around us. The micro world (macro photography) is often overlooked for the big landscape images - which are also great.

The leaf just happened to be in a sheltered part of the garden, so these exposed filaments did not disintegrate very quickly. A good bit of luck and some white paper and a deskside lamp to add contrast and depth to the details. :-)

Thanks guys for your comments. I have redone the photo (glendalough) in photoshop and added a bit more colour etc. Id agree with Tomeast on the comp. Looking at it now I would have liked the photo moved over to the right so that the boulder on the right hand side isnt cut off. Let me know how you would have it changed. Id be interested to know. Cheers for your encouraging words.

Hi Chris, thanks for commenting on The Tetons and Snake River. It is from the very same place that Ansel Adams took his famous photo. I lovd his image from the very first moment i saw it and never dreamed i would ever visit the same place, in fact i half didnt believe it existed, it seemed so surreal. i still cant believe i have been there.
